Welcome to Atacama Clay Studio

We are designed to give everyone from beginners to more-advanced ceramicists

an engaging and welcoming studio experience.

Our goal is to provide you with a strong foundation and support you to explore your own visions in clay. We offer you our own experience and knowledge to serve you as inspiration.

Services We Offer

We teach wheel throwing, hand-building, glaze education and application, and mix media techniques. 

We also provide studio membership to beginners and to established ceramicists to explore their practice, including kiln firing, and materials access.

2-hour Workshop Wheel Throwing

What's included? The fee includes everything ! Instructions, as much clay as you would like to use, up to 10 + studio dipping glazes to choose from, firing, and use of studio tools (apron and towel if you like). 

Scheduled dates to choose from (open the services page) or a la carte. Meaning, email us directly to navigate for dates/times available for your wheel throwing experience.

Up to 5 person per class.

Just arrive on time, and wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. We will take care of the rest!

Keep two pieces with chosen glaze color. Return in 4 weeks to pick up your work.

4-sessions 2-hour class Wheel Throwing 
Wednesday evening $200

What's included?​ The fee includes. Instructions to center, pull and shape your cylinder, and shape your piece into a desired shape, up to 10+ studio dipping glazes to choose from and slips, free clay included the amount of 12lb which you recycle and keep, 4 open studio days/time also included, and the use of studio tools.  In total you receive 8 sessions. 4 instructional  and 4 open studio sessions.​ Pieces fired twice, for bisque and glaze included at no additional cost. Pieces are limited to 300 cu.inches,  additional work is .5c per cubic inch. Additional clay 12lb. for $13.

Return to pick up your pieces in 4 weeks.

Studio Membership Monthly

Are you a current student at Atacama Clay Studio or have had pottery experience at different locations or you are a seasoned potter but do not have access to a studio ? Look no further! The fee includes, monthly access to the studio , all tools & equipment, studio glazes -up to 10+ dipping glazes, full bisque & glaze fire per month for 1 entire kiln shelf per fire. ​A large shelf to house your tools and materials. Clay not included- purchase 12.5lbs clay for $13 or bring your clay. Email us directly for more information.

Open Studio For 4-session 2-hrs class
Students Only

What's included? ​For current enrolled students in the 4-session class.​ Open studio runs from the first day to the last day of your registration.  In total you receive 8 sessions. The 4 instructional and the 4 open studio. ​Students must sign up to attend open studio to ensure the studio is open. ​Open studio is designed for you to work independently yet an instructor is usually present should you need/want some light direction.

2-hour Glazing Workshop

By far the most interactive and community engaging experience. Includes everything! Instructions A to Z. Bring your own bisque piece (previously made in a class) OR  select your piece from premade bisque-ware from our display.  We will cover or techniques,  dipping glaze, brush on glaze, use a stencil or tape, or other.  Glaze up to  2 pieces of  During the 2-hour workshop and return in 4 weeks for your pieces to be ready to adorn your home. Pieces selected by the instructor, usually choose from a plate , bowl or mug. In addition, you are welcome to house tea, coffee and great company.

2-hour Clay Hand Building Workshop

A favorite for sure, fun and relaxing among friends and building community. You will receive instructions and explore how to create a project using a choice of, pinch pot, coil building and/or slab building techniques to mold the one piece into shape. Instructions given to paint the project using underglazes. We will then fire your project, clear glaze it and fire it for a final step. The clay is included as well as all the tools and the firing process. Return  4 weeks to pick up your project. In addition, you are welcome to have some tea, coffee, and great company.
